Freeing Off-Grid villages from dependency on fossil fuels

Interlock are building a showcase solar low carbon village to demonstrate village development to enable Off-Grid rural communities to be free from dependency on fossil fuels. To fund this we are building an exclusive complex for 25+ low carbon dwellings (Solar Retreats) with an Ecology Hotel. This construction will provide urgently needed employment for ex covid victims and their dependants and the ongoing finance for our  post covid programmes for relieving off-grid villages from dependency on fossil fuels. The Ecology Hotel and Guest units will have an international membership with participant from the Indian Diaspora.

Each dwelling will be fitted with Wi-Fi & IT facilities so people from the congested city areas can have a lung in the country and ‘work from home’, also there will be permanent jobs , within the complex’ for local people i.e. housekeeping, home help, gardening , driver etc.

The complex will include a showcase demonstration centre that will have a solar battery charging station to provide charging for batteries to be used for electric vehicles, water pumps, workshops and charging for cordless tools for our proposed craft renewal projects for small industrial village projects.

The introduction of mobile solar water tankers, the traditional diesel tractor can be replaced with electric tractors, that will be able to transport water anywhere there is sun light and recharge and refill at the mobile charging units. Water scarcity will be a problem of the past and this initiative will reduce Migration from the rural to Urban.

Resulting in renewal of village life and an alternative /removal of the Urban slums in the process of removing Rural off-grid villages from dependency on fossil fuels. There will be residential facilities for participants from Off-grid villages to learn  how to apply solar and alternative energy to their Off grid villages including the introduction of the Interlock community Kool rooms.
This will be in additions to the existing Interlock community halls and guest rooms.

The initial phase of this project will create much need low skill, labour intensive employment for the hundreds of people who had to return to their villages when the cities where in  lockdown. They are now unable to return to the cities and are a  burden on the villages. So this project will, with our Compressed Earth Block making and rammed earth walls and cement free blocks, will be able to provide much needed jobs.

We want to set- up a social purpose company (Often known as impact investment ) to help run this initiative. Charity is good but it can make people dependant on charity even the people who staff the charities are dependent on charity themselves. We need to be a charity that means business.

We need business people who fix things and put people and planet first, and not growth and profit. – COP26
