IMAGE Rohini on site helping the ladies of the vilage
Friday, 27 May 2016
We were asked of Interlock could help the village to get drinking water from an old well that had some water but to get it to the village at the top of the valley  almost 1000 meters away would be too costly to pump using traditional fuel which is very costly and unavailable and there is no national grid. Alternative would be to carry the water which would take people away from other village tasks and be exhausting.  After a meeting where everyone had an input it was decided  that Interlock would help if the village people would provide the piping and labour for the installation of the pipe line Interlock would provide the solar pumping and water tanks.

Anjalai is doing well and is employed.
Thursday, 24 March 2011
Anjalai is recovering – Another success for Interlock Interlock has managed to gather the necessary funding for Anjalai’s operation, which took place at the end of October at the plastic surgery department of a leading Hospital of Chennai, India. The tumour has been successfully removed, the images in the photogallery show her face still swollen as a consequence of the operation but it will back to normal very soon. Anjalai can already eat and breath properly again and her right eye sight will improve with time. The doctors explained that had she not have the operation, she would have lost her right eye sight completely so Interlock came just at the right moment. Interlock has arranged for Anjalai to have employment and is covering her travel and expenses to the hospital for post-operation treatments. Anjalai is on the road to a total recovery and to begin a new life.

Landslide in Vadad Hasol
Tuesday, 20 October 2009
As you have heard in the news, heavy rains and floods wreaked havoc in India in the past weeks, causing destruction and death on the way. Interlock’s projects in Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh (see Child Labour Programme) were affected by the rain and we are now working to help save the hostel for the children and assist the population of those areas. Unfortunately the village of Vadad Hasol was heavily hit by the flood, the rain provoked a landslide which killed 10 people, including a family of 8, destroyed agricultural land, crops and also wiped out every means of access to the villages

Funds needed to treat Anjalai
Tuesday, 20 October 2009
Our partner in Tamil Nadu, Rural Development Trust, contacted us regarding Anjalai, a 23 year old tribal girl who suffers from what seems to be a face cancer. The images in the photogallery show the abnormal growth on the right side of her face which has totally disfigured her. Anjalai has been suffering from this condition for the past 12 years and she has developed breathing and eating problems, even slight head movements cause her great pain. Her appearance has got so bad that people in the village avoid her condemning her to complete isolation. Anjalai is orphan, her brother is unable to help her and only her younger sister provides for her. However, she cannot afford even basic medical treatment. Interlock has already contacted hospitals in London and Chennai and has arranged for Anjalai to undertake preliminary tests to understand the cause of her illness and assess the best course of action. The expenses for the surgery to remove the abnormal growth, the plastic surgery to reconstruct her face and the following treatments will be very high, Interlock needs help to cover them and allow Anjalai to have her life back. If you are able to help or have suggestions on how to access funding opportunities please contact us.

Kanchipuram, Tamil Nadu
Thursday, 27 August 2009
This project is part of the sustainable income–generating activities for a group of villages in Thiroporo Block, Tamil Nadu. With Rural Development Trust Interlock has provided three Day Care Centres (more are being built) in Kanchipuram for children of migrant workers in the area. The deepening of 30 wells has also been financed, with 15 wells already completed. Interlock and RDT set up Shantimaya, a model farm / meeting place for local farmers and visitors to meet, share experiences and learn about integrated rural development and the introduction of organic methods of crop husbandry. Shantimaya means ‘peaceful place’ in Tamil and reflects the goal of Interlock to promote peace, dialogue and experience sharing.
